Morality based upon religion does not put fairness first and this sometimes results in immoral teachings in traditional religions. The heart of the problem with religion is that it encourages the destructive "us versus them" attitude that is at the heart of human conflict. A major flaw in common religions is that they single out one group of people (us) for which they arrogantly assume the whole world was made to benefit - to the exclusion of others. I.E. Christian and Jewish religious texts repeatedly emphasize that the Jews are god's chosen ones and others are enemies to be destroyed and shown no mercy. Islam is no different.

Contrary to the bible's first commandment the Old Testament is a repetitive orgy of violence and murder which includes God's demanding that not just opposing armies but innocent women (pregnant or not), children, and babies be killed. God doesn't just kill his non-Jewish enemies, he again and again becomes irate and nearly wipes out his favourites when they fail to find him believable and worship other gods instead. What kind of all powerful god is so incredibly unconvincing in that role and so insecure as to be jealous of the power of fake gods? Only a fake god himself would be so insecure and unable to demonstrate his reality.

As people frequently and erroneously think the bible is a source of absolute morality I ask them to explain the obvious immorality of their god. When a group of god's servants was transporting the arc of the covenent in a wagon they encountered some rough roads. The arc wobbled and one of god's faithful servants reached out to steady and protect the arc as precious cargo. The Christian and Jewish god destroys him for it. No moral being would murder someone trying to help that being out. This is but one of many, many examples of immorality of the god of the Old Testament. Its obvious from this one alone that the bible in no way describes an absolute morality.

The foundation of the family and the bedrock of society is a sincere one for one exchange of questions and answers. This allowing of both sides an equal voice is at the heart of all courtroom justice and for good reason. Society and moral authority is based upon fairness (justice, if you prefer) and the agreements between people. Without agreement there is no marriage, no family, and no society. Same sex attracted people deserve the same right as everyone else has to maximize the benefit and minimize the pain in their lives. In a fair and just society this includes the right to marry the one person LGBTs are attracted to most.
